"An Evening of Piano Improvisation" at the Mainstay, Rock Hall, MD

An Evening of Piano Improvisation is just that: a wholly improvised concert event: featuring popular melodies, classical themes, and demonstrations of musical improvisation.

"Leading scientists from around the world concur that it is physically impossible to display any more pleasure than Joe does when he performs. It's borderline selfish, because, as amazing as it is to hear him, he still looks like he's having more fun than anyone else in the room." - Rik Ferrell, (Whats Up Eastern Shore).

Joe performs improvised arrangements of "Broadway" classics as the featured performer for this evening, sponsored by the Melwood Church. Between Joe's sets, members of the church will also present their "Broadway" favorites.

Joe performs with the Midiri Brothers Septet and trio for the Connecticut Jazz Festival
The Connecticut festival was the first festival for the Midiri Band in 2002 (breaking the "swing barrier" in this otherwise traditional festival), however, this is the only festival on which Joe has not appeared (since rejoining the band in 2006) - until now.

This year the Mammoth festival celebrates it's 20th anniversary, (with emphasis on the celebrating)! One of (if not the) most eclectic of jazz festivals, it has broadened (over 20 years) from a strictly "trad" event, to feature a wide variety of styles and bands. If you've never been to beautiful Mammoth Lakes California (a bustling ski resort in the winter), here is your perfect excuse!

This initiates the jazz vespers series for First Church, as the first of four: 1/month through April. Joe will play a "supporting role" in each of the services, featuring outstanding and popular traditional and mainstream jazz artists in the greater Phila./Balt. region. Danny is a "first call" trumpeter for many jazz bands in central/north Jersey and NYC area. Scott is head arranger for the US Navy Band in the DC area. This will be their first performance together, with Joe on piano. Not to be missed.
